Rhodiola rosea (rose root) is a species of plant from the genus Rhodiola in the family thickleaf. It is a succulent plant averaging 5 to 20 cm in height, forming taproots. Its range includes the Arctic regions and the mountainous regions of Eurasia and North America. In Siberia, the rose root is colloquially called "golden root", because it is attributed, among other things, to improve memory, concentration and receptivity. The plant has long been used as a medicinal plant in Russian, Baltic and Scandinavian countries, where it is taken as a tea or extract. In various other areas, the rhizome of rose root is also used folk medicinally to increase performance and reduce stress.

The most relevant ingredients of Rhodiola rosea for humans are its phenolic glycosides. The most important representatives here are salidroside and rosavin. Various scientific double-blind studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Rhodiola rosea in increasing cognition^1,2,3 and reducing fatigue^2,4,5,6 In further studies, an improvement in well-being and a reduction in the perception of stress could be observed^2,7.
