Jodine

Until the 1980s, iodine deficiency was a widespread issue in Germany. In the 1950s and 1960s, many people—especially in iodine-poor regions like the Alps—suffered from goiter (enlarged thyroid) as their bodies struggled to compensate for the deficiency.

The introduction of iodized table salt in the 1980s significantly improved iodine intake, drastically reducing iodine-related health issues. However, even today, around 30% of people in Germany have an insufficient iodine intake. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, in particular, require higher iodine levels for their baby’s development.

Frequently asked questions

Iodine is particularly important during pregnancy and breastfeeding as it supports the healthy development of the baby. However, iodine supplementation should always be discussed with a doctor or midwife to determine individual needs.

Iodine may interact with certain medications, including:

  • Thyroid medications
  • Lithium-based medications
  • Blood pressure & heart medications

If you are taking any of these, consult your doctor before using iodine supplements.

Yes, these iodine capsules are suitable for daily long-term use, as iodine is an essential trace element that the body cannot store. The recommended dosage should not be exceeded.

Ascophyllum nodosum is a brown algae (Phaeophyceae) but does not belong to the kelp family (Laminariaceae). Instead, it is part of the Fucaceae (wrack seaweed family).

The term "kelp" is often used generically for brown algae, making it widely recognized among consumers. However, scientifically, Ascophyllum nodosum is more closely related to bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus).

Unlike many Asian kelp products, PureSea® is a carefully controlled, sustainable, and safe iodine source, harvested from the pristine waters of the Scottish Hebrides.
