Monk's
pepper as a traditional medicinal plant
Even in ancient times, people used monk's pepper to promote well-being. Monks
and nuns used the plant to preserve their chastity, which is why it is also
known as "chaste mud". Today, the shrub is valued above all for its
potential positive properties in the area of hormonal balance.
Natural
ingredients and mechanism of action
Monk's pepper contains valuable secondary plant substances such as flavonoids
and essential oils. Of particular interest are compounds such as casticin and
linoleic acid, which have shown promising effects in studies and are
traditionally associated with supporting hormonal balance.
General
reference to premenstrual syndrome
Monk's pepper is often used traditionally to support general well-being during
the menstrual cycle. Studies and experience reports suggest that the
ingredients can have a regulating effect on the hormonal balance.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) describes a variety of physical and emotional symptoms that typically occur in the second half of the menstrual cycle - i.e. after ovulation and before the start of your period.
Common symptoms of PMS:
· Physical complaints: Headaches, breast tenderness, fatigue, water retention or cramps.
· Emotional symptoms: mood swings, irritability, inner restlessness or depressive moods.
Due to its influence on the hormone balance, monk's pepper is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for young women before their first menstruation.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to consider interactions with medication?
Anyone taking medication that affects the body's own messenger substance dopamine may only use monk's pepper after consulting a doctor. This includes, for example, medication for Parkinson's disease and psychological problems.
When should I not take the monk's pepper extract capsules?
Pregnant, breastfeeding or adolescent women and girls must not use the product. Women with hormone-dependent diseases such as breast cancer or tumours of the pituitary gland are also excluded.
What is the difference between monk's pepper and agnus castus?
There is none. Agnus castus is simply a colloquial shortening of the botanical name Vitex agnus castus.
Should the product monk's pepper be taken permanently or only acutely?
For optimum effect, it is recommended to take monk's pepper over a longer period of time and daily, regardless of the phase of the menstrual cycle. Studies and experience suggest that regular use of monk's pepper over several weeks is necessary to optimise the effect of the ingredients and support hormonal balance.
Taking them just before or during your period is less effective, as the effect of the herbal ingredients needs time to unfold in the body.
