Zitronenmelisse
Did you know?
Melissa (lemon balm, Melissa officinalis) is a species of plant from the genus Melissa in the Lamiaceae family. The plant can live up to 30 years and reaches heights from 20 to 90 cm. It grows mainly in the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia. Worldwide it is cultivated in temperate and warm areas. While it is used, among other things, as a spice plant, the leaves of Melissa extract are traditionally used to support stomach function and relieve nervous stress. Preparations such as tea infusions, liquid or dry extracts are used for this purpose. The high content of phenolic carboxylic acid derivatives gives the leaves of Melissa extract antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity. The most relevant of these secondary plant compounds is rosmarinic acid, which is formed from phenylalanine and tyrosine. Extracts of Melissa can contribute to mental and physical well-being, good cognitive function, optimal relaxation and peaceful sleep. They can also support a healthy circulatory system and maintain the natural hormone balance in the body.Several scientific studies have shown an increase in subjective calmness following the use of Melissa extract1,2. Other studies have shown a remarkable improvement in the symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome)3,4,5, both psychological and physical.
