Forskolin

Did you know?

Indian coleus (Coleus forskohlii, Plectranthus barbatus) is a species of plant from the genus of harp shrubs. The plant grows as a semi-shrub and its inflorescences grow up to 25 cm long. Its area of distribution extends from tropical Africa through the Arabian Peninsula to India and China. Indian coleus is particularly used for its ingredient forskolin, which among other things can regulate fat metabolism and thus contribute to weight management. In traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda), tea made from the plant's leaves is used to reduce digestive problems and the root is used as a tonic. In addition, the secondary plant compound forskolin is sometimes thought to have testosterone-enhancing and anti-inflammatory effects. In a scientific double-blind study, an increased reduction of adipose tissue could be achieved with the help of forskolin in obese patients1. In this context, other scientific studies also found a weight-reducing effect of forskolin2,3. In other double-blind studies, forskolin was also able to reduce asthma symptoms4,5.
