Iron comes in two forms: heme iron from animal foods, which is absorbed more quickly, and non-heme iron from plants, which is often better tolerated and easier on the stomach. But not every plant source of iron is the same!

Iron valencies:

  • Trivalent iron (Fe3+) is found in plant-based foods and must first be converted into bivalent iron. Vitamin C improves this conversion and increases absorption.
  • Divalent iron (Fe2+) is more bioavailable and is utilized directly. It is found in animal products, but also in plant sources if it is protected by ferritin.

The curry leaf (Murraya koenigii) is a natural source of iron with valuable nutrients. Appreciated in the Ayurvedic tradition for centuries, it provides iron in a particularly well-tolerated and easily utilized form - a gentle, plant-based alternative!

Frequently asked questions

Yes, herbal iron from curry leaf extract is well tolerated and can support the increased iron requirement during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As individual requirements may vary, we recommend consulting your doctor or midwife.
Children should only take iron supplements after consulting a doctor to avoid an overdose. Please consult a pediatrician before taking the product.
Vegetable iron from curry leaf extract is protected by ferritin. This natural storage form protects the iron from stomach acid and ensures a slow, gentle release in the intestine. An enteric-coated capsule is therefore not necessary.
Yes, plant-based iron is considered to be particularly well tolerated. Iron from curry leaf extract is released slowly and gently processed by the body.
Vitamin C helps to convert the trivalent iron (Fe3+) into the more easily absorbed bivalent form (Fe2+). The vitamin C from rose hips contained in our product thus maximizes iron absorption in a natural way.
Yes, some substances can influence iron absorption:
  • Calcium (from 300 mg) & dairy products: Can inhibit absorption - keep at least 2 hours away.
  • Caffeine (tea & coffee): Tannins block iron - best to avoid 1-2 hours before/after.
  • Zinc & magnesium (from 150 mg): Can compete with iron for absorption - better to take with a time delay.
  • Medication (e.g. antacids, thyroid hormones, antibiotics): Iron can influence the effectiveness - check with your doctor beforehand.
