The ancient Egyptian cultures already valued the precious oil as a remedy and gave it to their pharaohs in their tombs, along with gold and other valuable gifts. Even today, black cumin oil is traditionally produced in Egypt. It contains a large number of vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids and has a high content of secondary plant substances, such as tannins, saponins and essential oils. The ingredient thymoquinone, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound that can have antibacterial and antifungal properties, is worth a particularly mention here. In addition, black cumin oil has a high proportion of the important polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially linoleic acid.
