Did you know?
For thousands of years, frankincense, the resin of the Boswellia tree, has been used not only as an aromatic incense, but above all in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory remedy. The so-called Frankincense Road is one of the oldest trade routes in the world and led from present-day Oman to the Mediterranean port of Gaza and to Damascus. Frankincense is the dried resin of the Boswellia trees. Not all species contain anti-inflammatory boswellic acids in appreciable quantities.
Boswellia serrata, the Indian frankincense, is one of the best studied frankincense species with a high content of boswellic acids. They are considered to have an anti-inflammatory effect. They block the activity of the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase, a key enzyme in inflammation1
. Scientific research has focused particularly on the boswellic acid AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), which is considered as a measure of quality of different types of frankincense.
Boswellia Frankincense capsules from ZeinPharma®
are characterized by a very high content of boswellic acids. In clinical studies, positive influences of frankincense extracts could be observed in various inflammatory diseases such as arthritis2
, chronic inflammatory bowel-3
and respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma4
. In another study, a positive effect was shown in psoriasis5
