Intestinal bacteria produce vitamin K in small amounts, and many foods contain minute quantities – which means consuming large amounts of such foods to meet your body's demands. Taken as a supplement, our Vitamin K2 capsules are an ideal source of high-potency vitamin K to boost your natural intake to optimal levels.

What is Vitamin K?

Vitamin K is a group of essential vitamins, further subdivided into Vitamin K1 (Phylloquinone) and Vitamin K2 (Menaquinone). Vitamin K was discovered in 1929 by Danish researchers studying cholesterol synthesis.

What is special about our Vitamin K2?

Our raw material, MenaQ -7, is based on a traditional Japanese fermented soya bean dish (natto), a natural source with the highest vitamin K2 content (as long-chain menaquinone -7).

Vitamin K2 is the most effective form of vitamin K available. Once our Vitamin K2 is absorbed into the intestine, it is immediately available to the body. In addition to its rapid absorption, our Vitamin K2 accumulates in the blood for up to 72 hours; whereas synthetic vitamin K1 or K2 preparations (menaquinone -4) are completely absorbed within two hours, and undetectable in the bloodstream after eight hours.

Vitamin K for coagulation, cardiovascular and bone health

The name of this vitamin is derived from the word 'coagulation', which illustrates its primary role in blood clotting. Vitamin K also has a strong influence on cardiovascular health by promoting the action of carboxylated matrix Gla-protein (MGP), effectively inhibiting the calcification of arteries. This protein binds to calcium, preventing its deposition – a relationship demonstrated in a Rotterdam study (2004) involving 4,800 volunteers. Therefore, when given an adequate supply of vitamin K2, blood vessels remain elastic and flexible, and the presence of sufficient vitamin K2 in the bloodstream can also significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular damage.

Vitamin K is similarly essential for bone metabolism because it makes calcium available from the blood, creating the conditions for strong, healthy bones. It also stimulates the protein osteocalcin (amongst others), which plays a part in bone formation.

Enhanced benefits with vitamin D3

Our product's effectiveness is boosted when taken in combination with vitamin D3. Together, vitamin K2 – the most effective form of vitamin K – and D3 – the active form of vitamin D – have an optimal effect on bone metabolism.

  • Vitamin D support a strong immune system

Vitamin K2's natural origin

Our raw material, Menaquinone -7, is obtained from fermented soya beans (natto) sourced from Japan, where natto is a traditional dish and an acknowledged natural source containing high levels of vitamin K2.

In addition, our vitamin K2 -7 MenaQ capsules are 100% vegetarian – the raw materials contain no animal ingredients.

Can you overdose on vitamin K?

Vitamin K will not cause excessive blood clotting, because blood-clotting proteins have a limited ability to absorb vitamin K. Once saturation point is reached, vitamin K has no further influence on blood clotting.

Five benefits of ZeinPharma's Vitamin K2 Capsules

  • 1. Patented, high-bioavailability, MenaQ7 ®
  • 2. Vitamin K2 derived from natural raw materials

How should I consume vitamin K supplements?

Swallow one Vitamin K capsule daily with a main meal, and with at least 200 ml of still water. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. Keep out of reach of small children. NB: to be taken in addition to a balanced diet; use under medical supervision.
